3rd Symposium and Workshop of Music & Dance in Cross-Border Ethnic Groups between (South) China and Neighbouring Countries
21st - 24th November (GMT+8) 2021
Hosted by: Yunnan Arts University
CALL FOR PAPERS
Dear Colleagues:
During the twenty-first century, with China’s extensive economic opening process and the implementation of The Belt and Road Initiative, the research on music transformation and cultural identity in ethnic groups who live near China’s boundary has become a hotspot for Chinese scholars specializing in music. As an intersection of the fields of Chinese traditional music and world music, this research has implications for China and its neighbouring countries as they trend toward global – or ‘glocal’ – culture as a result of economic development.
The first Symposium of Music in Cross-border Ethnic Groups between China and Neighbouring Countries was held in 2011 at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, and has given rise to many significant achievements in this field. Subsequently, in 2020 the Music Research Center of Ethnic Groups in South China & Cross-Border Ethnic Groups was founded in affiliation with the Ethnic Arts Institute of Yunnan Arts University. By virtue of its geographic location and academic resources, this research center is becoming a professional music organization involved in communication, resource sharing and consultation for cultural exchange between South China and its surrounding countries in Southeast Asia and South Asia.
In order to promote further discussion and communication of theory and questions about music mobility engendered by social practice, and to promote, through the expansion of comparative and case studies, research on music, dance and culture of the cross-border ethnic groups, Yunnan Arts University and its affiliated Music College and Research Center will launch the 3rd Symposium and Workshop on Music & Dance in Cross-Border Ethnic Groups between (South) China and Neighbouring Countries from November 21st to 24th, 2021.
We sincerely welcome contributors from overseas and China to participate in the symposium and visit Kunming city in Yunnan province, China. Authors of high-quality papers are invited to submit their abstracts or full papers to the Program Committee of internationally recognized specialists. For more information on the symposium schedule, themes and submission requirements, please see below:
